Safe drinking water is a basic requirement, and recurring complaints about water quality and RO facilities in residential halls need systematic attention. Students in halls such as Begum Azizunisa Hall and RM Hall have reported problems with RO machines, including concerns that some machines dispense chilled water without ensuring satisfactory water quality. I would raise these complaints with the concerned hall authorities and university administration and advocate for regular water-quality testing, timely maintenance of RO systems, and transparent reporting of inspection results. Water storage tanks, supply lines and drainage systems should also be inspected regularly to identify contamination risks and stagnant water that may contribute to mosquito breeding and dengue. Where an RO system is not functioning properly, an interim safe drinking-water arrangement should be provided until the issue is resolved. Complaints should be recorded and followed up rather than addressed only when they become urgent.

As a candidate for the AMUSU cabinet, I will make safe and reliable drinking water in hostels a priority. Clean water is a basic need, not a luxury, yet many students face irregular supply, old pipelines and water coolers that are rarely cleaned. I will push for regular testing and public display of water quality reports, scheduled cleaning of tanks and coolers, and repair or replacement of worn pipelines. Every hostel should have working RO or filtered water points with a maintenance schedule and a named person responsible. I will also set up a simple complaint system, such as a hostel-wise helpline or form, with a fixed time limit for resolving issues, so problems are fixed quickly instead of being ignored. Because the cost of illness and lost study time far exceeds the cost of upkeep, I will work with the administration to make this a funded, monitored routine rather than a one-time fix.

Water Coolers should be inspected at a regular interval to avoid bacterial infection or physical malfunction.

The water coolers in many hostels are poorly maintained. An authority should be appointed to inspect and review their maintenance at least once a month.

Hostel drinking water and supply should be improved through regular water-quality testing, proper maintenance of RO and filtration systems, and a reliable, uninterrupted water supply in every hall. As a candidate for Cabinet Member, AMUSU — Faculty of Arts, I would raise students’ concerns with the concerned authorities and push for a proper complaint and monitoring system, regular cleaning of water coolers and storage tanks, and timely repairs wherever problems arise. Safe drinking water is a basic necessity, not a luxury. Every student, regardless of their hostel or financial background, deserves access to clean and safe drinking water. My approach would be simple: listen to students, document the actual problems, coordinate with the concerned authorities, and follow up until practical solutions are implemented.

Hostel drinking water and supply should be improved through regular maintenance of water purifiers, routine water quality testing, and timely repairs of faulty pipelines and water coolers. A proper system should be in place to ensure a continuous supply of clean and safe drinking water in every hostel. Students should also have an easy way to report water-related issues so that complaints can be addressed promptly.
